Pilgrimage to Wythburn

Sunday 27 June 2010 was the first of the summer's Evening Praise services taking place at Wythburn Church, Thirlmere.

This particular Sunday was a very special event for three ladies, planned for over a year. Thanks to Margaret Armstrong they were able to trace their family roots back to the Rev. Basil Ranaldson Lawson, curate and vicar of Wythburn from 1849 to 1892.

Joene Peel of Bellingham of Washington State is descended from the daughter of the Reverend. Joene was researching her family history when she found the book "Thirlmere, Across the Bridges to Chapel 1849-1852. From the diary of the Reverend Basil R Lawson, Curate of Wythburn" written by Margaret Armstrong. Joene also found a cousin, Ann Miller, living in Melbourne Australia, descended from the Reverend's son.

A few months ago Joene's research located another cousin, Glenda Bolton, living in Spain and also descended from the Reverend's son.

The three cousins finally met in Keswick and took the pilgrimage to Wythburn.

The following are a few images from that Sunday afternoon.
